House of The Macallan
The Macallan
This project is one of the most forward thinking and detailed projects that I've worked on in my career. I had the pleasure to art direct all elements: immersive screen content, hologram displays, fabricated structures, lighting, and prints + branding.
For 2023, the annual event series House of The Macallan returned with a cross-country tour that introduced four US cities to the rich history, heritage, and essence of the whisky inspired by nature and informed by mastery.
A collaboration between The Macallan and MATTE Projects, the events engaged guests through thoughtfully curated displays, immersive installations, and memorable tasting moments.
The highlight element of the project was the 15ft. high, 4-sided LED monolith - a new media art installation that told the distillation story of The Macallan liquid. The content moved from the stream of The River Spey, down to a fluid mixture of the alcohol itself, smoke particle chaos and evaporation, into the aging of the gold liquid through color and viscosity.
Another highlight moment was the nature room, an exploratory journey that opened the event with a mystic portal into the world of The Scottish Highlands. The fauna that made up the space were based off samples from the species found directly at The Macallan Distillery, an ode to the brand's heritage. Our creative approach integrated programmed lighting and curated ambient music amidst the natural elements - a hybrid sensory experience of physical and virtual. This installation was carefully crafted, produced, and packaged up as it went on tour across the US from Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and Aspen.
